Our bestselling Poppy Necklace began life as something wonderfully ordinary: the handle of an antique teaspoon, transformed into an elegant marquise-shaped pendant and blooming with California poppies.
The California poppy (Eschscholzia californica) became the official state flower in 1903, thanks in no small part to the remarkable Sara Plummer Lemmon. Born in 1836, Lemmon was an artist, teacher, nurse, librarian, botanist, and devoted lover of the outdoors—a wonderfully accomplished woman who made it her mission to champion California’s brilliant golden flower.
We cast the original antique piece in solid bronze, preserving every lovely botanical detail and giving this small piece of history a new life as a forever keepsake.
Antique decorative and souvenir teaspoons became a collecting sensation in the late nineteenth century, when travelers gathered these tiny works of art as keepsakes of places, people, and experiences. Once treasured as everyday objects and mementos, these beautifully detailed spoons are artifacts of another life—transformed now into forever keepsakes with a hidden history all their own.
