These elegant poppy earrings have a secret - they are made from antique teaspoon handles hand cast in solid gold.
The California Poppy (Eschscholzia californica) became state flower in 1903. The poppy’s greatest advocate was Sara Plummer Lemmon, born in 1836. She was an artist, teacher, nurse, librarian, botanist and lover of the outdoors. We've cast the original in recycled sterling silver to make a forever keepsake.
Antique decorative and souvenir teaspoons became a collecting sensation in the late nineteenth century, when travelers gathered these tiny works of art as keepsakes of places, people, and experiences. Once treasured as everyday objects and mementos, these beautifully detailed spoons are artifacts of another life—transformed now into forever keepsakes with a hidden history all their own.
